ICAN of Baltimore, which is lead by chapter leader Barbara Stratton, received a grant from Lamaze International, and is holding the country’s first ever cesarean art exhibit in Baltimore, Maryland at the end of the month, in honor of Cesarean Awareness Month.
The exhibit is titled “Cesarean Voices”. Women from all over the country have sent in their art, and I sent in 2 pieces as well. I am so glad that there is a venue that will host these powerful images. I know it took a while for Barbara to find a place that would allow such an exhibit.
I am going to attend the opening night of the exhibit, and I am thrilled. I will finally be able to meet some of these wonderful women, including Barbara. There will be a speaker from Lamaze International, which I am also excited about.
I can’t imagine at this point how I will feel viewing all the pieces of art, which convey such strong and personal feelings… I think it will be very emotional, but so healing and liberating at the same time.
The opening reception will be held on April 29, 2010 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. Additional viewing hours 4/30 and 5/1 from 10-4.
The exhibit will be held at the address below:
Christian Temple Christian Church
5820 Edmonson Ave.
Baltimore, MD 21228
I promise to take pictures for those that can’t be there!
Wish I could be there! I have a few pieces in the show. Please post pics 🙂
Oh please do take pictures! I sent in two pieces as well. I would love to see how the exhibit is arranged and hear how it is being received. 🙂 Looking forward to hearing what you think. 🙂
I just did two pieces on cesareans, the first “First Kiss” is about the cesarean itself and then “Cocoon” is about healing from it and is accompanied by a poem written by a c-sec mama. Are your photos from the art show posted somewhere? I’d really love to see what the other women came up with.

My next piece, which I just shot references for and will start in a few days, is going to be on VBAC.
Thanks for all the good you do posting this info!
